Professional Year Program

Professional Year Programs (PYP) offers international students who have graduated from a university in Australia wishing to apply for a permanent residency. Through this program students can develop industry-specific skill which facilitate them for professional careers in Australia. Currently Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) only allows three PY programs – IT, Engineering and Accounting. The programs have to be provided by a number of accredited bodies which are described below.

IT Program

IT Professional Year Program is designed and run by Australian Computer Society (ACS) for providing training and industry specific skill to overseas graduates so they can easily enter to Australian workforce.

Accounting Program

This program is run by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants of Australia and Institute of Public Accountants. Through this programs overseas graduates get their PR and enter the Australian workforce every year.

Engeering Program

Professional Year Program in Engineering is designed and run by EEA (Engineering Education Australia). The program helps  overseas graduates gaining experience and insights of Australian workforce.

Why Do you need PY?

What Are the Requirements?
  • A current resume and a cover letter. 
  • Certified copies of academic transcripts.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (e.g. IELTS – 6.00)
  • Colour copy of the passport
  • Copy of your 485 Skilled Graduate Visa
  • Colour passport photograph
  • Age between 18 to 45
  • Having an Australian qualification on a 2 years of study.
  • Holding a Skilled Graduate Visa 485 or be waiting for it.
What Are the Components in PYP?
  • Participating a minimum 44 week program. 
  • You will gain industry-specific skill and Attending a number of workshops and seminars provided by the accredited education providers.
  • Attending an unpaid internship to a company in Australia as per guideline.
  • Attending boot camps held at the opening and closing days of the program to develop network with industry professionals.
